Of particular interest are Jaquet-Droz\u0027s \u0027The Writer\u0027 (1774) and Merlin\u0027s \u0027The Silver Swan\u0027 (1773) which beautifully illustrate the degree of technical mechanical sophistication achieved by artisans over 240 years ago. There is also a funny aside: the record Prof. Schaffer places on the turntable at the end (columbia LX466, 1935 impression) is the Beethoven String Sonata Opus 132 and not the Symphony 7 so BBC used any old record and overlaid the sound track.","wins":0,"nominations":0,"casts":[{"name":"Simon Schaffer","code":"nm2406693","characters":"Self - Presenter"},{"name":"Ilan Goodman","code":"nm2802899","characters":"Jacques De Vaucanson"},{"name":"Laura Heath","code":"nm5714093","characters":"Flute Player"},{"name":"Jonathan Betts","code":"nm0079443","characters":"Self - Senior Curator of Horology, Royal Observatory Greenwich"}],"budget":null,"lifetimeGross":null,"openingWeekendGross":null,"worldwideGross":null,"keywords":[{"text":"mechanical"},{"text":"device"},{"text":"clockwork"},{"text":"silver"},{"text":"swan"}],"production":[{"id":"co0274645","text":"Furnace"},{"id":"co0043107","text":"British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC)"}],"prestigiousAwardSummary":null,"moreLikeThisTitles":[]}
